I walked into Captain America: Brave New World with a mix of excitement and curiosity. With Anthony Mackie officially taking over the shield as Sam Wilson, I was eager to see how this new chapter would unfold. While the movie had its moments, I left the theater feeling like it played things a little too safe.
The story follows Sam Wilson as he struggles to navigate the responsibilities of being the new Captain America while dealing with global conflicts. The plot centers around a new resource, adamantium, discovered in the ocean, leading to political tension and power struggles. Throw in President Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrison Ford) and a mysterious villain causing chaos, and you’ve got the setup for what could have been a thrilling political action film.
Mackie does a solid job as the lead, and it’s great to see his character evolve. His dynamic with Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) adds some fun moments, and the action scenes are well-executed. But at times, the movie felt weighed down by too many side plots and unnecessary “Easter eggs” that distracted from the main story.
Visually, the film delivers the high-energy fights and impressive CGI that you’d expect from a Marvel movie. However, the pacing dragged in certain areas, and some of the deeper themes, like what it means for Sam to take on the mantle of Captain America, weren’t explored as much as they could have been.
Overall, Brave New World is an entertaining watch, especially for Marvel fans, but it doesn’t quite reach the heights of previous Captain America films. If you’re looking for solid action and a glimpse at the MCU’s future, it’s worth a trip to the theater. Just don’t expect it to redefine the franchise.
