In a remarkable display of resilience, talent, and skill, Ludvig Aberg clinched the 2025 Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. Overcoming a severe stomach illness that led to an eight-pound weight loss, the 25-year-old Swede delivered a stunning final round, finishing at 12-under-par to secure a one-stroke victory over Maverick McNealy.
Aberg’s performance was highlighted by four birdies in the last six holes, including a very decisive six-foot putt on the 18th green. This victory marks his second PGA Tour win and propels him to the top of the FedEx Cup rankings.
The tournament, traditionally held at Riviera Country Club, was relocated to Torrey Pines due to the January 2025 Southern California wildfires. Despite the change in venue, the event attracted a stellar field, with a total purse of $20 million, awarding Aberg a winner’s share of $4 million.
Notable moments from the tournament included Aberg’s first professional hole-in-one during the third round and a heartwarming appearance by Tiger Woods, who, despite mourning his mother’s recent passing, attended to support fellow players and fulfill his hosting duties.
However, the event wasn’t without controversy. Rory Mcllroy, who finished tied for 17th, had a heated exchange with a spectator following a missed putt, defending his longtime caddie, Harry Diamond, against criticism and hate.
The 2025 Genesis Invitational showcased exceptional talent, skill and memorable moments, setting a high standard for the PGA Tour season ahead soon.
