I had way more fun with The Bad Guys 2 than I expected. Honestly, I went in thinking it would just be a silly sequel, but I walked out grinning. For me, it’s a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
I really enjoyed how the movie picks up with Wolf, Snake, Shark, Piranha, and Tarantula trying to live the straight life. I liked that the story actually made me think about what it means to change. I could feel Wolf’s struggle when people still judged him for his past. I’ve been in situations where it felt like no matter what you do, people only see the old version of you—and that made me connect with him more.
I laughed a lot too. Some of the jokes are goofy (yeah, there are fart jokes), but I didn’t even care because the timing and animation sold it. I especially liked the action scenes—fast, colorful, exaggerated in the best way. I caught myself leaning forward during the heist sequences because they were that fun.
What surprised me most was the heart. I didn’t expect an animated heist movie to make me reflect on second chances, but it did. I liked how the crew wrestled with who they wanted to be versus who people thought they were. That message stuck with me more than I thought it would.
Sure, it’s not perfect. Some villains felt one-note, and a couple of jokes didn’t land for me. But overall, I really enjoyed the ride. It’s funny, it’s energetic, and it’s got a message I connected with. I’d definitely recommend it if you want a movie that makes you laugh but also sneaks in a little bit of meaning.
