Week 2: Broncos at Colts — A One-Point Heartbreaker

After the high of Week 1, Us Denver fans probably thought our team had a shot to roll into Indianapolis and make a statement. Instead, we got a lesson in heartbreak football. The Broncos lost to the Colts 29–28, and it was the kind of game that leaves you staring at the ceiling wondering how it slipped away. The offense wasn’t bad. Nix looked sharper, the running game produced some solid yardage, and the Broncos actually built a lead at one point. The problem was the little things—the penalties, the miscues, and most painfully, the special teams failures. A missed field goal in a one-point game is like handing your opponent an engraved invitation to beat you, and the Colts gladly accepted. Denver’s defense also had its share of letdowns. They held firm in stretches, but when the Colts needed big plays late, they got them. Watching the final drive unravel, capped by the game-winning field goal from Indy, felt like a cruel repeat of a story Broncos fans know all too well: close enough to win, but not quite there. And that’s what made this one sting. The Broncos weren’t outclassed. They were competitive, they were resilient, they looked like they belonged. But in the NFL, “almost” doesn’t go in the win column. Week 2 was a reminder to us that this team has the fight, but it needs the polish to actually finish games.
