As the school year comes to an end, some students are looking forward to summer break, then returning to JVA or another high school. For seniors, they’re looking forward to the end of their high school experience and preparing for the adult world. We decided to collect the reflections of some of this year’s seniors and their time at JVA. Whether they’ve been here for years or just a year, they’re graduating from Jeffco Virtual Academy and have some things to say!

I started attending JVA at the beginning of this school year.

Yes! It helped me so much because I was able to go at my own pace.
What’s been your favorite moment or your favorite memory here at JVA? If you have multiple, feel free to share them all! This can be inside or outside of school.
I’ve loved how willing the teachers were to help me that best for my needs. They were super helpful and I think that’s the most memorable.
If any class you’ve taken at JVA has stood out to you, what is it and why?
I’ve loved taking English 12 and U.S History. The teachers have been so helpful and gave me the best resources to succeed.

Ms. Long and Mrs. Ugander have been so helpful to work with. Their willingness to provide resources that fit my learning style made online school so easy.
Do you have anything else to say about JVA?
I’ve loved it! I’m very grateful I was able to be apart of this school for my last year.
What advice would you give to next year’s seniors?
Take your time and have fun! Just because you’re online doesn’t mean you’re missing out on experiences, go out with your friends and make the same memories as you would in in person school!

Mr. Bennecke. He takes controversial topics and teaches them in a way that is not pushy, but allows us as students to think for ourselves.

Yes, I felt more comfortable doing school at my own pace, and it felt great having a break from the unnecessary drama that is involved with public schools.

Forensics and Astronomy were very interesting classes that aren’t offered at the school I went to earlier, so it was nice getting the opportunity to study those.

Ms. Long, she’s very kind and patient. I believe she understands each of her students very well and how each student may need more support than others. Overall she was a great and very supportive teacher.
Do you have anything else to say about JVA?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to spend my last year of school here.
What advice would you give to next year’s seniors?
At one point the senioritis does start to kick in, but just keep going, this is the last stretch. And don’t worry about missing out on the activities that public school seniors get to do, yes, sometimes it sucks missing out on what seems to be a lot of fun, but coming from someone who went to public school all her life, it’s not as fun as it seems. Just focus on graduating and building a career for yourself. You’re almost there and it’s definitely worth it in the end!!
Congrats to this year’s seniors! We’ve gotten through high school and are ready to take our next steps, whether that’s college, a job, or taking a much needed break!
