The Nuggets Fired Their Coach and GM—Then Started Winning Everything
Okay, I’ll be honest—I didn’t expect this at all. A couple of weeks ago, the Denver Nuggets made headlines for firing both head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth. Yep, the same Malone who led them to their first NBA title just two years ago. It seemed like a total disaster waiting to happen.
But then something crazy happened: they started winning. Every game. Since the firings, the Nuggets have been undefeated, closing out the regular season strong and heading into the playoffs on a serious hot streak.
According to multiple sources like ESPN and Bleacher Report, the decision to let go of Malone and Booth wasn’t sudden. There had apparently been a lot of tension behind the scenes—disagreements about how to manage the roster, player development, and even team culture. President Josh Kroenke said something about the “environment” becoming too toxic to ignore. I guess when things get that bad internally, winning games isn’t always enough to keep your job.
Now David Adelman is the interim head coach, and so far, he’s doing a solid job. Jokic and the rest of the squad seem more locked in than ever. And honestly, watching the team lately, they’re playing with this crazy energy that wasn’t there a month ago. It kind of feels like they’ve got something to prove.
I’m not saying this was all part of some genius master plan (because firing your whole leadership team right before the playoffs still feels wild), but whatever it is—it’s working.
Next up, the Nuggets are facing the Clippers in the first round of the playoffs. If they keep this energy going, who knows? Maybe that second championship isn’t as far off as we thought.
